Gan Ying Ying
Ying Ying started her journey with the cello at 10 in her school’s Chinese Orchestra. At the age of 16, through the encouragement of her secondary school conductor Mr. Teo Teng Tat, she begun formal lessons with Li Hua (former SCO cellist). In the same year, she participated in the music camp organized by Ministry of Education (MOE). This valuable experience piqued her interest to excel in her music.
After stumbling on a brochure about Singapore National Youth Chinese Orchestra (SNYCO) in school, she enrolled in SNYCO in 2007 and studied under SCO musician Mr Ji Hui Ming. During her 6 years of tenure with SNYCO, Ying Ying was given many opportunities to grow and develop as a musician.
After obtaining a Diploma of Nursing in Ngee Ann Polytechnic, she went on to study at the Yong Siew Conservatory of Music in the National University of Singapore to further her passion for music under the tutelage of Mr. Leslie Tan. She has also undergone training with Mrs. H. Ilano and Mr. Gerald Teo.
Ying Ying believes in paying forward in her journey as a musician and teacher, to groom, support and encourage her students just like all the role model teachers she came across.
